HMRC warning: IR35 tax changes set to harm the self-employed – what do you need to know? | Personal Finance | Finance

Many warn these oncoming changes will be particularly difficult for the self-employed to manage when coupled with existing problems.

Richard Hepburn, an operations manager at Gorilla Accounting, commented on the dire situation the self-employed face: “Last year, the Government SEISS scheme went a long way towards helping the self employed, with 67 percent of those eligible claiming the second grant in September at an average claim value of £2,500.

“However, as has been highly publicised, many company directors who take their incomes from dividends, have missed out and large numbers of them feel this is grossly unfair.

“Although flourishing in volume, the self-employed sector continues to face financial difficulties in light of COVID-19, so imposing additional taxes on them at this time would not be welcomed.
