Hamilton’s Mercedes demand

All throughout the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend, Lewis Hamilton complained that his Mercedes was lacking rear-stability, especially through the high-speed Sector 1.

He felt the W15 was in a “different category” in Jeddah and has demanded changes to be made, three years into the ground-effects era.

Norris explains jump start

At lights out, Lando Norris appeared to jump the start – with old friend George Russell just making sure the stewards didn’t miss it with a helpful radio message.

But while Norris did move before the lights went out, he stopped before they did and then got going at the same time as everyone else.

The stewards cleared him of a jump start as he went onto finish in eighth place, four places behind team-mate Oscar Piastri. He explained just what went on.

Bearman’s backing

Oliver Bearman is the man of the F1 moment after his stunning debut in Jeddah and earned a classy gesture from Hamilton post-race in parc ferme.

The 18-year-old’s performance also caught the eye of George Russell, who has assessed the younger Briton’s chances of making it four British drivers on the 2025 grid.

Ricciardo’s Red Bull future

Daniel Ricciardo’s weekend in Jeddah was a poor one to continue his slow start to the season against team-mate Yuki Tsunoda.

He was comprehensively out-performed by Tsunoda, who troubled the points and top 10 in qualifying whereas Ricciardo found himself rooted to the rear of the field.

He was at a loss to explain why as his hopes of making it back to the Red Bull seat he left in 2018 begin to look longer and longer.

Fergal Walsh explains.
