It was a tough season for Mercedes as they failed to dominate Formula 1 like they have done for the last eight years.

Toto Wolff described the year as “character building” for the team after they finished in third place in the championship, their worst result since sixth in 2012.

Lewis Hamilton has offered some words of encouragement for the team in their factory at Brackley in the UK, saying how they could have easily “given up” and made it a winless year but pushed through to salvage some success.

“We kept pushing and didn’t give up. We could have easily given up when you see what we faced. I didn’t see that. Everyone, every individual is so important to us and to get us back to the front of the grid,” said the Briton.
