Graeme Souness names the player Liverpool miss most ahead of AFCON | Football | Sport

The Reds appeared to lack a midfield metronome, a player of Thiago’s ilk who can control a match and dictate possession, as the game’s end-to-end flow made for a frantic first half of football.

The Anfield club have failed to win any of their last three Premier League matches in Thiago’s absence, having won the previous six on the spin before the midfielder contracted Covid-19.

Sunday wasn’t the first time Liverpool have thrown away points having been in a leading positions this season, and Souness’ fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes his former club’s inability to see matches out will cost them the title this season.

“I think when you’re always in the lead, certainly two-nil up against a big rival you’ve got to be disappointed,” Carragher said.
