Four Man Utd players can spare Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from sack after Tottenham win | Football | Sport

A handful of Manchester United players have proved to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that they are on his side after saving him from the sack. The Red Devils thrashed Tottenham 3-0 in London on Saturday.

United are back on the up after a 3-0 win over Tottenham in north London to alleviate some of the pressure on Solskjaer.

After a 5-0 drubbing from rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, the Norwegian needed a response.

With five defeats in nine games, it looked like time was up for the United coach.

But the 48-year-old made some drastic changes to that side that was thrashed by Jurgen Klopp’s men, including a formation change that saw them keep Tottenham out throughout the whole contest – not even conceding a shot on target.

So, who can Solskjaer rely on now after saving his job?

Raphael Varane

The France international returned to the side after recovering from injury and made a huge difference already.

This was just the second clean sheet United have kept in 22 matches and they did so by not even allowing Tottenham to trouble David de Gea.

Going forward, whether Solskjaer keeps his new formation, Varane must be a staple to the side.

Cristiano Ronaldo

There has been a lot of noise over whether Ronaldo is actually good for the team but he is United’s match-winner.

And he was in top form against Tottenham, scoring a brilliant goal and assisting Edinson Cavani in similar fashion, while he has also earned wins against Villarreal and Atalanta in the Champions League.

As long as Ronaldo is scoring, Solskjaer can count on the superstar forward – who will never let himself have a poor performance.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford has come back from his injury with real fire in his belly and was perhaps unfortunate not to start against Spurs.

He already has three goals in four games this season and is looking to become that hungry forward and finally fulfil his potential.

In Ronaldo he has a perfect mentor and if he can learn a shred of his composure in front of goal – Solskjaer has got the man to lead the line for years to come.

Edinson Cavani

The Uruguayan was fast becoming a forgotten man at United after the arrival of Ronaldo but the two work so well together – exhibited against Tottenham.

Two of the elder statesmen of the squad, they can lead by example while the younger players such as Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho watched on from the bench.

Playing two up front is also how you get the best out of the duo, while Cavani loves to chase defenders down despite being 34.
