Exclusive: How lifestyle changes have helped Tsunoda up his game in 2022

Yuki Tsunoda says he has made several changes to his life and
routine that have helped him improve his performances in his sophomore F1
season.

Despite scoring points on an encouraging debut Grand Prix in
Bahrain last year, Tsunoda also found the barriers a little more than he might
have liked throughout 2021, and ended the season on 32 points – 78 points and
five places adrift of teammate Pierre Gasly.

However, after seven rounds of the 2022 season, the tables have
turned somewhat, with Tsunoda now leading Gasly by 11 points to six, and the
Japanese said that his upturn in form coincided with a move from England to Italy
that helped him forge closer ties with his team.

“It has helped me that I now live close to the AlphaTauri factory
[in Faenza],” Tsunoda said in an exclusive interview with RacingNews365.com.

“Whether
a race went well or not, I can visit the factory immediately after the race to
find out the reasons for it and then use that experience for the next race.

“We
can respond quickly to everything. For example, if I have problems with my seat,
I can then be there within five minutes to do a seat fitting.

“But I can also go to the gym or meet the staff naturally and
spend time with them.

“That way, you can feel the atmosphere and the emotions of those
people, and those things are definitely good for me.

“Maybe there’s one [bad] thing – if I’m training lazily, Franz
[Tost, AlphaTauri Team Principal] is going to see!”

Tsunoda ‘inspired by Bieber’

Tsunoda also said that he feels more relaxed and in control this
year than in 2021, and revealed a somewhat surprising inspiration for his calmer
state of mind.

“I’ve been watching Justin Bieber a lot on Netflix
recently. He’s always been very relaxed with the media, so I think I’ve been
inspired a bit by him.

“I’m
more in control. I just know how to control situations and which things I
really need to focus on.

“Last year, I didn’t have a clue, I wasn’t as relaxed as I am
now, and [now] I don’t have to use any energy outside of racing, so that’s why I’m
feeling more energetic during a race week, from the start of FP1 to the race.”
