Prince Philip will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on Saturday at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle after he passed away aged 99.

The Duke of Edinburgh was born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark on June 10 1921 to Princess Alice of Battenberg and Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark.

The Queen’s late husband was the youngest of five and had four sisters named Princess Cecilie, Princess Margarita, Princess Sophie and Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark.

Princess Margarita

Princess Margarita was the eldest child and was born on April 18 1905 at the Royal Palace in Athens.

She married Prince Gottfried of Hohenlohe-Langenburg of Germany and had six children.

The first great-great-grandchild of Queen Victoria died on April 24 1981 in Germany aged 76.

Princess Cecilie

Princess Cecilie was the third eldest sister of Prince Philip.

She was born on June 22 1911 at Tatoi Palace, Greece.

Cecilie married Georg Donatus, Hereditary Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, her first cousin once removed, in 1931, Darmstadt, Germany, and the couple had four children.

The couple, along with sons Prince Ludwig, Prince Alexander and Georg’s mother Grand Duchess Eleonore were killed in an aircraft accident in 1937 after it crashed into a factory chimney near Belgium while they were travelling to London for a wedding.

Cecilie, who was 26 and eight-months pregnant at the time, gave birth mid-flight.

Princess Theodora

Princess Theodora was the second child and was born on May 30 1906 at Tatoi Palace.

She married Berthold, Margrave of Baden and the couple had three children together.

Theodora died on October 16 1969 aged 63 and just five weeks before her mother Princess Alice passed away.

Princess Sophie

Princess Sophie was the fourth child and the youngest daughter in the family.

She was born on June 26 1914 on the island of Corfu, Greece.

Sophie was first married to Prince Christoph of Hesse aged 16.

The couple had five children together before he died aged 42 in a plane crash during World War II.

She went onto marry Prince George William of Hanover and the couple had three children.

Sophie died in November 2001 in Munich, Germany, aged 87, and was godmother to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
