Richarlison can also play through the middle but is usually preferred out wide in a 4-2-3-1, where King can also play if needed.
Having also occasionally played with Newcastle striker Callum Wilson in a two-man partnership at Bournemouth, King is capable of leading the line alongside either Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison in a 4-4-2.
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti hinted at a desire to sign a new forward over the weekend.
He said: “Maybe yeah, maybe not! I cannot answer with honesty to this.
“Maybe we can ask if there is some opportunity but we are not desperate.
“We can play with Richarlison also. We played with no striker and won at Wolves. That’s it.”
He added of Tosun before his move to Besiktas was confirmed: “Cenk has the desire to play in this period. He is talking to some clubs. Really I don’t know which club he is talking to.
“If he wants to leave, we are open to letting him go. He wants the opportunity to prepare for Europe [the delayed Euro 2020 tournament] for his national team.”
