IndyCar team owner Dale Coyne is close to finalising his 2021 line-up and would “love” Romain Grosjean to be a part of it.

Grosjean departed Haas and Formula 1 in general following his horrifying crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix, with injuries to his hands leaving him unable to take part in his scheduled final two races with Haas.

But Grosjean remains keen to compete and one of the possible new destinations which has been consistently mentioned is IndyCar.

The Frenchman has already confirmed he is holding “discussions”, over a move to IndyCar for 2021 and now Coyne, owner of the Dale Coyne Racing team, has confirmed Grosjean is an option for the second seat at his outfit alongside Ed Jones.

Coyne said a decision should be made “next week”.

“You all could make a list of 100 drivers and we’ve probably talked to every one of them this winter – employed, unemployed, America, Europe, every country. It’s been kind of amazing,” said Coyne when The Race asked him about the prospect of signing Grosjean.

“Obviously Romain is a good driver, we’d love to have him. [I’m] working on a few other ones as well, so hopefully we get all that buttoned up and make an announcement next week, and then get out testing in February.”

While IndyCar appears to be very much on the table for Grosjean, he also recently said returning to Le Mans was something he is very interested in after making a sole appearance at the iconic event in 2010.

“Clearly, it’s one of the things I want to do,” he told Ouest-France.

“This year, that said, we are still between two regulations. Toyota presented its car, which is very pretty. We know other manufacturers want to come back by 2023.

“Yes, it’s something that really tempts me, to share the car with team-mates.

“In F1, the objective was to go as fast as possible, alone. Today, I’m really excited about the idea of making everyone go fast.

“I’ve already had the chance to do it in real life but also more recently in virtual, with my e-sport team. I really want to do something like that again.”
