Crystal Palace ‘preparing for Man Utd and Liverpool transfer’ as Glasner gets to work | Football | Sport

Crystal Palace look resigned to losing Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window, with both Manchester United and sniffing around the centre half. Guehi has enjoyed a stellar three-year spell at Selhurst Park, but the England international is now being tipped for a summer exit.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim Palace have already begun the search for Guehi’s replacement, with new boss Oliver Glasner wasting little time in getting down to business. The south Londoners are reportedly declaring early interest in defenders from across the continent, as they prep themselves for Guehi’s departure.

It’s suggested Guehi will leave Palace when the summer window opens later this month, with the ex-Chelsea ace being courted by several top clubs in the Premier League. Alongside interest from United and Liverpool, north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been mentioned as potential suitors for the 23-year-old.

Guehi’s services are unlikely to come cheap though, with early suggestions Palace could hold out for a club record sale. That currently stands at £50million, which the Eagles pocketed for the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who joined United from Palace back in the summer of 2019.

A figure in excess of £50million is likely to be what’s needed in order to sign Guehi from Palace this summer and there’s an added incentive for them to cash in now as well. Given that Guehi will have just two years left to run on his contract by the time the summer window rolls around, it could be the last chance for Palace to secure a bumper deal.

It comes amid what’s shaping up to be a hectic summer for Glasner and Co. at Selhurst Park, with numerous big-name stars linked to Palace exits. Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are among those who could wave goodbye at the end of the season, with Palace facing a tough fight to keep hold of their best players.

But it isn’t just on the pitch where Palace could see their top talent poached, as Premier League giants United are also said to be interested in Dougie Freedman for their vacant head of recruitment position. Freedman has a proven track record of identifying hidden gems during his time at Palace, but if he does secure a switch to Old Trafford in due course, there’s every chance he’ll make the recommendation to Sir Jim Ratcliffe that Guehi and perhaps some of his other Eagles teammates are worth taking a punt on.
