Chelsea U-turn on summer signing as Boehly ‘transfer lists star after only seven months’ | Football | Sport

Sanchez began the season as Chelsea’s No. 1 but an injury allowed Petrovic with the opportunity to show by he was purchased from New England Revolution for a fee of £14m, and he has taken the chance with both hands.

As such, the 24-year-old will remain on the Blues’ books going forward but will be forced to settle for a spot on the bench if a marquee goalkeeper does arrive, with Sanchez to be offloaded in order to raise funds and create space in the squad.

The 26-year-old was signed from Brighton for a fee of £25m after a public fallout with Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi saw him frozen out of the squad, with Jason Steele replacing the Spain international seamlessly.

Chelsea threw Sanchez a lifeline though, with goalkeeper coach Ben Roberts – who joined the club from Brighton when Graham Potter jumped ship – particularly keen to continue working with the former Forest Green loanee.
