Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard is willing to sell up to five defenders in the current window in order to make room for new signings, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry. Chelsea are in need of improvement at the back after conceding more goals than any other team in the top half of the Premier League this season. Leicester and England star Ben Chilwell has been targeted as the No 1 choice for the left-back position by Lampard.
Lampard is also reportedly eyeing West Ham’s Declan Rice as a potential long-term centre-back.
But Chelsea have already spent over £80million on the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, with a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz also in the pipeline.
So McGarry says current members of Lampard’s defence are up for sale.
Centre-backs Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen and left-backs Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso are four of the names who could leave Stamford Bridge.
