Allegri has been linked with the job at Stamford Bridge as a result, with the Italian still available following his departure from Juventus back in 2019.
And the Daily Mail say he’s previously been interviewed by Chelsea, though exactly when isn’t specified.
It’s possible this was in 2018, back when Conte left the capital, but he was still contracted with Juventus and therefore stayed put.
He was also linked with the Blues in 2016, after Guus Hiddink’s second spell as interim boss, but again remained with the Old Lady.
And whether Allegri now rocks up in west London as Lampard’s successor remains to be seen.
For now, Chelsea are standing by their man. They know sacking a club legend would risk upsetting supporters and it’s still relatively early in the season.
