Chelsea lost 2-1 to Wolves on Tuesday night as their slump in form continued, having also been beaten by Everton over the weekend. Manchester United legend Paul Scholes lamented their lack of creativity, but did praise one midfielder he has been particularly impressed by.
Paul Scholes has backed Mason Mount to become the new Frank Lampard after revealing he has been highly impressed by the Chelsea midfielder.
Mount has been an important player for Lampard over the last couple of years, joining him on loan at Derby before becoming a first team regular last season.
The 21-year-old already has 13 England caps under his belt, and has gone from strength to strength this year.
So despite losing 2-1 to Wolves on Tuesday night, Manchester United legend Scholes spoke highly of Mount, making a big prediction for the Chelsea youngster.
“Mason has got his manager, there, to fall back on and has nobody better to learn from. He should be winning games for Chelsea.
“In years to come, I think he will score a lot of goals for Chelsea, just like Frank.”
Scholes also gave his title predictions after what has been a very open start, and had a surprise take on Chelsea’s chances.
The ex-midfielder continued: “It is going to be the tightest title race we have had for such a long time.
“I still think Liverpool are the best team and they will win the league, even though the gap will be nowhere near as big as it was last season.
“I expect Manchester City to get close and then there is the rest of them. I still expect Manchester United to improve massively, Chelsea are a good team, as we have seen, and they will be there or there abouts.
“But it is going to be tight, it is going to be tough. However, I just don’t expect Chelsea to be there this year.”
