Chelsea have been making significant progress in their efforts to seal new deals for Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva, but the future of Antonio Rudiger remains far from certain, according to reports. All three players will be out of contract at the end of the season as things stand, with Thomas Tuchel said to be keen on retaining their services ahead of next season and beyond.

They have each played an important role for the Blues under the German manager’s guidance following his arrival at Stamford Bridge back in January.

Christensen has emerged as a key man for Chelsea in recent years, while Silva has offered plenty of experience and know-how at the back since joining the club at the start of last season.

The former initially looked set to agree fresh terms at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season before hitting a snag in negotiations with the club’s hierarchy.

Silva has also been widely tipped to sign a new deal but has been linked with a return to his native Brazil in recent months.

Both players will be allowed to strike a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club if their contracts are not renewed before the turn of the year.

However, it seems as though the pair will soon commit their respective futures to the European champions over the coming weeks.

They are close to extending their current deals in west London ahead of the January transfer window, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

It is said that Christensen is poised to sign a new four-year contract at Chelsea, with the club’s hierarchy set to thrash out the finer details as a matter of priority.

This would come as a blow to the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham, who are reportedly keen on landing the 25-year-old ahead of next season.

Silva is also expected to renew his stay in England for a third successive year by penning a 12-month extension to his current deal.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender will reportedly sit down for additional talks with Chelsea over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Blues are still struggling to find an agreement to maintain the services of Rudiger beyond the end of the campaign.

The 28-year-old played a crucial role in Chelsea’s back three that conceded just twice in the Champions League knockout stages last season.

He has also featured in all but one of his side’s Premier League matches since the beginning of the current campaign.

However, the German defender could be poised to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere in the summer, with Real Madrid said to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

Tuchel recently declared that he is looking to keep Rudiger at the club for as long as possible but conceded that patience will be required in order to find a solution that suits all parties.

“We absolutely accept and are fully aware of the importance of Toni and the role that he’s playing on and off the pitch,” said the Chelsea boss.

“There is no doubt about that. It’s true that nobody is bigger than the club and this is a team effort and a strong club.

“It’s not only about Toni and I mean that in the best way because we know what he’s doing and we’re fully aware of it.

“In the end, we need a bit of patience. I have no update right now.”
