Chelsea make contract ‘breakthrough’ to save Thomas Tuchel millions in transfer market | Football | Sport

“It’s our information that a breakthrough has been made in contract negotiations with Christensen and his representatives, and that a deal to make sure that he signs an extension to his contract has effectively been verbally agreed, which of course would be good news for Chelsea, good news for Tuchel, good news for Christensen as well.

“In the current climate, given the fees that are being bandied around for players who are playing in defence at the highest level, this would clearly represent a bit of a coup with regards to retaining Christensen’s services, as well as the fact Chelsea wouldn’t have to invest again in the market which is inflated in that way, with other parts of the team needing investment.”

Speaking in October, Tuchel stated his wish that Christensen stayed at Chelsea for the long term.

And the German thinks the centre-back can get even better over the coming years.
