Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed there are plans in place that will see Fikayo Tomori leave in this transfer window. The defender was on the bench as the Blues beat Morecambe 4-0 in the FA Cup.
Chelsea star Tomori is on his way out of the club soon, Lampard has confirmed.
The Blues boss admitted the defender did not start against Morecambe in the FA Cup so that a deal would not be jeopardised.
Tomori has been strongly linked with a transfer away from Chelsea this month, either permanent or on loan.
Several clubs have been interested in the England international, including Leeds and Newcastle.
But there is more of a chance of a move to a European club, with teams in France and Germany taking a closer look.
With Chelsea facing Morecambe in the FA Cup, this was a chance for Lampard to rotate his squad.
However, he fielded a strong team instead – with Tomori managing just a spot on the bench.
And the Blues boss confirmed that was because a deal is in the offing.
He said: “Situation with Fikayo is open about the moment.
“There is a possibility he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else.
“So that would have to be the solution for him and the club. That was part of my thinking of not starting him today.”
Chelsea have struggled recently in the Premier League but Lampard has defended his misfiring forwards, who are still young.
He added: “We have a lot of young players in forward areas who have real potential.
“If you look around the Premier League, the players at the top of the scoring charts, are 27. 28, 29 years old. They produce every week.”
