Barcelona transfer target Erling Haaland is keen on the idea of playing alongside Lionel Messi for the final few years of the Argentina international’s career, according to reports. The Norway international is admired by Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea with the summer transfer window creeping closer. And it’s easy to see why, with the Borussia Dortmund star enjoying a terrific campaign.

Barcelona are growing increasingly confident of keeping Messi.

The Argentina international wanted to leave last summer after growing unhappy at the Nou Camp and under former club president Josep Maria Bartomeu in particular.

Since the return of Joan Laporta, however, things have started to change.

Barcelona have been better on the field of late, their recent defeat to Granada aside, and there’s a sense that better times are just round the corner.

The Daily Mail say Messi wants at least one marquee signing from Barcelona this summer if he’s to stay.

And it’s claimed that Haaland is tempted by the idea of playing alongside the Argentina international for the final few years of his career.

The Borussia Dortmund star’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland, and agent Mino Raiola recently jetted out to Catalonia for talks about a potential deal.

And though Barcelona have been hit hard by the coronavirus crisis, they’re determined to recruit well in this summer’s transfer window.

They’re yet to replace Luis Suarez, who was allowed to leave for fierce rivals Atletico Madrid last year.

And Haaland, given his powers in front of goal, would definitely be a top successor to the Uruguay international.

Lionel Messi’s Barcelona anger explained

The 20-year-old has been in terrific form this term, scoring 25 goals from 26 Bundesliga matches so far amid a difficult campaign for the Westfalenstadion outfit.

And he’s also scored 10 times in the Champions League.

Regarding Messi, and Barcelona president Laporta recently held talks with the player’s father, Jorge Messi, about his future.

And it’s said the discussions went well, though talk the 33-year-old has agreed to stay and sign a new contract isn’t yet accurate.

Barcelona could give Messi a 10-year contract in order to persuade the veteran his future lies in Catalonia.

That would involve him staying put for three years before going to the MLS, while fulfilling important ambassadorial duties.

And they’d then give Messi a director’s role once his time in the United States comes to an end.

Meanwhile, Raiola has opened up on his recent talks with Barcelona over the potential signing of Haaland come the summer.

“If I tell you the reason for the trip, you won’t believe it,” he told Spanish newspaper AS.

“Haaland’s father had to go to Marbella, he wanted to travel and so did I, because he had to congratulate Laporta and go to Madrid, and we did all these things at once.

“Because look, 99 per cent of the time I travel and nobody knows where I am.

“The strange thing is that there is no Private Terminal in Barcelona. There is a paparazzi there 24 hours a day.

“I think they were waiting for an actress. He was not a sports paparazzi. But look, I don’t have anything to hide either, I talk a lot with the directors of Barça or with Jose Angel Sanchez.”

Raiola also insisted Haaland hadn’t decided on his next move.

“No, because I don’t care if you tell me now,” he said.

“He has to tell me when all things are clear in my head and I can make a menu, and put it on his plate: we have that, this and this… And now we can’t.”
