They were threatened early on by Villa, but the young defence held firm, with Tanganga in particular looking bright.

As well as Tanganga, Lucas Moura was arguably Tottenham’s best player, with his pressing and drive troubling the Villa defence.

In fact, it was from Moura’s pressing that Tottenham took the lead, when he forced Emiliano Martinez into an error before linking up with Kane and presenting Vinicius with a tap-in.

That was the 25-year-old striker’s first Premier League goal and he duly roared in delight at breaking his duck in the top-flight.
