When Hollyoaks first arrived on screens, it fast became known as the home of the sexiest soap stars.

At its peak, it raked in four million viewers a night who tuned in to see some of the most controversial storylines on the box.

As the Channel 4 soap turns 26 this month, take a look back at the seven stars of the original cast and where they are now.

Will Mellor

Will Mellor launched his career on Hollyoaks playing Jambo Bolton until 1998.

He went on the have a successful acting career and starred in shows such a Two Pint of Lager and a Packet Of Crisps, Broadchurch and Line of Duty.

Will also appeared as a regular in BBC One’s Casualty back in the early 2000s, playing Jack Vincent from 2001-2003.

Will is married to dancer Michelle and they have two children together

The now 44 year old recently joined the cast of Coronation Street, where he is playing drugs lord Harvey.

He is married to dancer Michelle McSween, and the couple has two children.

Jeremy Edwards

Hollyoaks launched Jeremy Edwards as one of the biggest heartthrobs of the noughties.

His character Kurt Benson was killed off in 1999. However, he was back for a one off special playing a guardian angel in 2013 and again last year.

Post Hollyoaks, he enjoyed a successful TV career, with his longest-running job playing student nurse Danny Shaughnessy on Holby City.

Jeremy, who is now 48, was a regular contributor on the Wright Stuff panel and reality TV shows, including Celebrity X Factor, where he sang in a double act with Strictly star Brendan Cole.

He also appeared in the 2005 series of Celebrity Big Brother alongside Jackie Stallone and Brigitte Nielson, where he finished in fourth place.

Following a high profile relationship with S Club 7 star Rachel Stevens which ended in 2002, Jeremy married Lydia Metz in 2009, and they have one daughter, Scarlett, who was born in 2018.

Currently, he is embroiled in a legal battle with the makers of a CBBC programme after a stunt on the show left him with a significant back injury that meant he has had to turn down an acting job on US drama Reign.

Brett O’Brien

Brett arrived in Hollyoaks playing original cast member Louise Taylor for one year before the character left to start a new life away from the village.

Hollyoaks provided the perfect springboard for a successful career in acting, and Brett has since starred in dramas Wire In The Blood, Doctors, The Bill and Law And Order UK.

Shebah Ronay

Shebah played Natasha Andersen, who died of a drug overdose in 1996.

Following her stint on the show, Shebah ditched acting and went on to work as a model and journalist.

She is married to artist Jonathan Yeo, and they have two children.

Lisa Williamson

Lisa played Dawn Cunningham, who had one of the show’s most heartbreaking exits, dying of Leukaemia on Christmas Day 1997.

Following her Hollyoaks departure, she acted in the football drama Dream Team. However, she has since left acting to focus on her work as a hypnotherapist.

Yazmin Bannerman

Yazmin played kidnapped restauranteur Maddie Parker who quit the show after one year in 1997.

The star played Jabe in Doctor Who and landed TV roles in shows such as Cold Feet and Merseybeat.

The actress, now age 49, also starred on the big screen in films like Baby and Killing Me Softly.

Nick Pickard

Nick has played chef Tony Hutchinson since Hollyoaks first ever episode.

Nick is the show’s longest-running actor known as ‘Ken’ by the cast and crew – a nod to Coronation Street’s longest-running actor William Roache.

The 45 year old received an Outstanding Achievement award at the 2017 Soap Awards.
