Arsenal transfer news: Arteta given Dusan Vlahovic hope as Fiorentina chief slams agents | Football | Sport

Arsenal have been offered hope in their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic after Fiorentina’s president hit out at the striker and his agent. Rocco Commisso has slammed the ‘screwed-up’ nature of football and transfers.

The Gunners have long been interested in Vlahovic, who has stunned Italy with his goal record.

In 2021, Vlahovic equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for Serie A goals in a single season by scoring 33 times.

That form has earned interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. it is perhaps the case Vlahovic will even be the alternative for clubs who fail to sign Erling Haaland.

But Arsenal are seemingly leading the race at the moment.

Boss Mikel Arteta faces the unique situation of potentially losing all three of his main strikers ahead of the 2022-23 season and will likely have a new striker top of his priorities.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract in June and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seems unlikely to rekindle his Arsenal career.

Floarin Balogun has been sent on loan to Middlesbrough to gain first-team experience.

And now, Fiorentina president Commisso has hit out at Vlahovic and his agent over rumours linking the 21-year-old with a departure.

“We’ve been working on it for months, some days are more positive than others,” he said in September.

“I speak to Dusan and he says he’s only focusing on the pitch and I should talk to his agents, then I talk to his agents and they say I have to speak to the player.

“His agent should come to Florence, he is the one doing the negotiations.

“What I will say is that this would be the highest salary ever given to a Fiorentina player, including Gabriel Batistuta and Manuel Rui Costa.”

Arsenal are continuing to push to try and seal a deal in the region of £68m for Vlahovic, though the player is said to be ‘unconvinced’ by the project at the Emirates Stadium.
