Arsenal make Ben White transfer plan amid Liverpool, Man Utd and Tottenham interest | Football | Sport

The Gunners are set for a major overhaul of their squad this summer following one of their worst Premier League seasons in recent history.

England centre-back White has been targeted to improve their back four having impressed in the Three Lions’ recent Euro 2020 warm-up friendlies against Austria and Romania.

Arsenal finished eighth in the top-flight, even despite an improved run towards the end of the campaign which saw them win their final five matches.

It meant that the north Londoners failed to qualify for European competition for the first time since 1997.

Arteta has called for a summer revamp of his squad and is set to let go of several senior players and replace them with younger signings.

Midfielders Granit Xhaka and Willian have also been linked with departures.

Brighton defender White has been targeted following an impressive debut Premier League campaign, according to the Mirror.

Man Utd, Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested in signing White, who helped Graham Potter’s side remain in the top-flight.

They finished 16th but recorded the joint-fewest goals conceded of any side in the bottom half with 46.

The South Coast side’s attack was instead blamed for their low league position.

The 23-year-old’s form has earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020, although only after Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold pulled out through injury.

White was initially one of the seven excluded from a provisional rota of 33 players but was drafted back in when it was confirmed that Alexander-Arnold’s injury would keep him out of the tournament.

He has expressed his pride in being part of the Three Lions squad.

“To make it to the final squad was unbelievable,” White said after being named as the replacement on Monday.

“It’s been very surreal. Obviously I didn’t think this would be happening. I thought I’d be somewhere hot like Portugal [for the summer].

“It’s mind-blowing. I didn’t really expect any of it to happen. To make it to the final squad was unbelievable.

“I don’t think it can be bad news when the gaffer is going to ring you. I was just waiting for the call. I don’t think I’ve let it settle in yet.

“It’s something I’ve never felt before. It’s very difficult. It’s news that doesn’t normally come around. I was speechless and I felt amazing.”
