Arsenal target Emi Buendia could be on the move in January with Norwich City admitting they are ‘braced’ for bids for the player. However, the Gunners are likely to face competition for the winger’s signature.
The Gunners are rumoured to be keen admirers of the Argentine winger who has played a starring role at Carrow Road since his move from Getafe in 2018.
Arsenal’s dismal Premier League campaign plummeted to new depths following their latest defeat at the hands of Everton.
The 2-1 setback at Goodison Park was their sixth defeat in seven matches leaving them in 15th place and just five points above the relegation zone.
This run of defeats has seen the Gunners find the back of the net just three times and their issues in front of goal were laid bare by the fact they failed to muster a shot on target in the second half of the Everton.
Manager Mikel Arteta is coming under increasing pressure and will look to the January transfer market to bring in reinforcements to turn Arsenal’s season around.
Buendia has been one of the names linked to the club as Arsenal look to bolster their goal-shy forward line.
According to Sky Sports, Norwich are aware of interest in the player and expect to demand around £25 million for his signature.
The reports claim the East Anglian club are already identifying potential replacements for their star man if he was to leave in the coming weeks.
However, Arsenal are likely to face competition in the market with Spanish sides Atletico Madrid and Valencia also said to be eyeing the player.
Premier League rivals Leeds and Aston Villa have also been named as potential suitors.
Despite Norwich’s relegation from the Premier League last season, Buendia managed to score once and register seven assists in his debut season in England for Daniel Frake’s side.
This term, the Argentine has helped the Canaries’ soar to the top of the Championship with six goals and seven assists in sixteen appearances.
Buendia was in inspired form as Norwich extended the lead at the top of the table to five points following a 2-0 win over Cardiff.
The winger opened the scoring in the first half with a cool finish from the edge of the penalty area before laying on the assist for Todd Cantwell to seal the three points in the second period.
In contrast, Arsenal’s top scorer in the league this season in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with just 3 goals in 12 matches.
Summer signing Willian leads the way on assists, again on a paltry 3.
Speaking after their latest defeat, Arteta seemed to acknowledge his team’s troubles at the top end of the pitch.
“I think we had 15 shots but only two on target,” he admitted.
“We need to improve our rate, that’s the reality. We need to generate more to win football matches.
“When it comes to small details, the other team wants it more. The boys are absolutely still fighting. They’re hurt right now.”
