Arsenal are apparently interested in replacing technical director Edu in former winger Marc Overmars. The Dutchman, who spent three years at Highbury, is currently director of football at Ajax.

Serious change could be on its way at Arsenal.

The Gunners are struggling this season and are languishing in 15th place in the Premier League table ahead of their game against Everton this weekend.

They had a busy summer transfer window as they brought in Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian and Thomas Partey, but not everyone was happy with their business.

Arsenal fans were unhappy with the deal to sign Willian due to his extortionate wages, with the Brazilian on a reported £220,000-per-week.

Edu, the man responsible for those deals, has taken a fair amount of the blame, with fans criticising the decision to give such a significant contract to a 32-year-old.

Now, reports suggest Arsenal could replace their transfer guru with Overmars.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Overmars could potentially be on his way out of Ajax.

Overmars is credited with helping to create Ajax’s golden generation of players – with Matthijs de Ligt, Donny van de Beek, Frenkie de Jong and Hakim Ziyech all departing the club for significant transfer fees.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, via SportWitness, claims that Arsenal have always wanted to bring in Overmars, and could opt to bring him in sooner rather than later.

Ajax are apparently moving already to try and bring in a replacement for Overmars in the belief that he will leave.

Speaking in 2017, just before he inked a new four-year deal, Overmars admitted he was flattered when there were rumours that Arsenal were interested in him.

He also said it would be tempting for him due to his affiliation for the club.
