Manchester United and Napoli are yet to agree a deal for Alejandro Garnacho to move to Italy. And the transfer may be off as the Serie A giants have now made contact with Borussia Dortmund over a move for Karim Adeyemi.
Garnacho was the subject of a £38million bid from Napoli earlier this month, with the player often omitted from the Red Devils starting line-up since Ruben Amorim took the helm at Old Trafford.
But United turned down the offer as the transfer fee fell below their £70m valuation of the 20-year-old.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between United and Napoli are still on. But the clubs have failed to reach an agreement since the first bid was made.
The Serie A giants are in the market for a new winger after selling Euro 2024 star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last week.
And the Naples club, who are managed by former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, could now attempt to close out a deal for Adeyemi, with Dortmund said to be open to selling the winger this month.
If Napoli do secure the services of Adeyemi, they would end their pursuit of Garnacho.
Chelsea are also said to be keen on Garnacho and are weighing up a formal proposal for the Argentina international.
And United’s former chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on Tuesday: “Chelsea are very interested in him. From what I hear, they’re making progress towards that because he’s the one they want. I don’t think there’s been a bid yet, but there has been a lot of talk about a move.
“It looks like Man United are willing to let him go because they want to raise money. I think if they were going to let him go, it would ideally be to a foreign club, but that doesn’t mean to say they’ll turn down an offer from Chelsea if it meets their asking price.”
Garnacho has started just four of Amorim’s first 10 Premier League matches as United manager and has failed to contribute a single goal or assist in those games.
He was named on the bench for his team’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against Tottenham last month but returned to the starting team as the Red Devils overcame Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup earlier this month.
The talented ace joined United from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 and has featured 118 times for the club, bagging 23 goals and 14 assists in the process.
