Following the announcement that he would remain a Williams driver for 2023 and beyond, Alex Albon responded to the news by mimicking a tweet sent on Tuesday by Oscar Piastri in response to Alpine’s claim that the Australian would drive for them next year.
Alpine announced on Tuesday that current reserve driver Piastri would replace the Aston Martin-bound Fernando Alonso for 2023.
But Piastri took to Twitter a mere two hours later to refute Alpine’s assertion that he would drive for them.
“I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year,” Piastri had tweeted.
“This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year.”
Albon mimics Piastri tweet
In responding to Williams’ announcement of his contract extension, Albon appeared to mirror Piastri’s tweet – but with a few important differences.
“I understand that, with my agreement, Williams Racing have put out a press release this afternoon that I am driving for them next year,” tweeted Albon.
“This is right and I have signed a contract with Williams for 2023. I will be driving for Williams next year.”
Piastri appeared to take the send-up in good humour, tweeting his congratulations in response to Albon’s message.
