Arsenal news: Unai Emery makes HUGE claim about Mesut Ozil future | Football | Sport

Ozil has fallen out of favour recently and has not started a Premier League game since the beginning of November.

Reports have emerged suggesting the club could look to see him or even loan him out when the January transfer window opens.

The German is the club’s top earner on around £350,000 per week and Emery might need to get them off the wage bill if he wants to make any big signings himself.

However, Emery insists Ozil is still very much in his plans.

“I want every player with a good mentality to help us,” the Gunners boss said.

“He can give us his quality and his characteristics. We need Mesut Ozil.”

The 30-year-old will be in Emery’s squad to face Burnley at the Emirates in Saturday’s early kick-off but is not expected to start the match.

Emery said his omission from the League Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham was due to tactical reasons and claims he has told Ozil what he needs to do to force his way back in to the side.

“I have spoken with him regularly throughout the season and I am telling him what we need from him,” he said..

“He has the commitment to help us with his quality and characteristics when the team needs his moment on the pitch.

“But not just him, I spoke with every player, sometimes individually, sometimes collectively.”

“[Ozil] has scored three goals [in the Premier League this season] and he has given us assists.

“But some matches we need different things tactically or individually.

“But it’s not only him. For me every player is the same. If you make a difference between them because one has more salary – for me it has to be the same.

“The most important thing is to train every day with good behaviour, good commitment and to be OK for the match.

“Mesut is OK for [the Burnley match]. There are 18 players in the squad and one of them is Mesut and I trust in our team and all our players.

“I understand some players give us more news outside but for me they are all the same.”
